Fall Welcome at Carillon Assisted Living

With the leaves changing and cool, crisp winds here in North Carolina; fall is in full swing at Carillon Assisted Living!

Fall is a time for apple picking, autumn walks, corn mazes, hayrides, watching the autumn leaves turn brilliant, beautiful colors and enjoying fall foods and the company of friends here at Carillon Assisted Living.

From the local and state fair, community festivals and fall festive activities, Carillon’s residents and families are busy making the most of autumn!

Fall is also a time for pumpkin picking, painting and eating! At Carillon Assisted Living we have pumpkin painting contests. Here are just a few pumpkins entered into our contest this year by Carillon of Shelby, NC.

In the early days of American colonization, a major aspect of life was foraging for food. One of the first treasures planted for human consumption in America was the pumpkin. The possibility of having access to something that could be planted, controlled by staying fresh for months then enjoyed meant less time foraging and more time for family life and community development.

Did you know? Pumpkins are in in the “Squash Family” and are considered a fruit because they are “seed-bearing.” A well-known source of beta-carotene with some of the highest levels of vitamin A,C and E, Pumpkins are a very nutritious food.
